Holistic Select Grain Free Indoor

Holistic Select Grain Free Indoor

The standard range from Holistic Select is pretty good, so how does the grain free Indoor Recipe for Weight Control compare?First off, this food is aimed at cats who’re less active or older. It has a lower fat level than most foods to help your furry friend retain a healthy weight. It still has a decent level of protein at 32%, mostly from turkey and chicken meals as great lean meat sources, as well as peas.

Potato is the 2nd ingredient and adds carbs to the food. We often see this ingredient in grain free foods because it’s cheap and readily available, and it helps bind the food. It’s not a bad ingredient, but does little for our cats other than fill them up. We find another source of potato as the 4th ingredient, which makes this food a mixture of decent meats (great) and potato (not so great).

As with other Holistic Select products we find a great range of vitamins and minerals, fruits (some exotic), vegetables, and a few herbs for good measure. Essential oils are included, with menhaden fish oil being nice to see and will ensure your cat retains a healthy, glossy coat. Natural preservatives are used which are more common in better brands of food.

It’s a well-rounded food, with the only real downside being the amount of potato. It’s worthy of 4 stars.

Good points…

A great selection of lean meats giving this food a decent protein to fat ratio. A range of quality “holistic” ingredients are included.

Bad points…

It feels very potato heavy to me, but we need to take into account this recipe is for indoor cats.
