Shopping List: Super Simple DIY Bone Broth

Bone broth is extremely simple to make and very beneficial. Once the broth is made it can be stored in the fridge or even frozen.

Equipment needed:

A slow cooker (about $40)

Ingredients:

  • Meat – Can be soup bones (such as beef), turkey legs, chicken feet, chicken necks. You can use a mixture if you like.
  • Apple Cider Vinegar (a couple of capfuls or tablespoons – don’t overdo it)
  • Turmeric

That’s it!!!

Instructions:

Put the meat in the slow cooker and fill with enough water to cover the meat (about 5 litres). Add some apple cider vinegar (just a couple of capfuls) which helps extract the nutrients from the bones.

Cook on low for 20 to 24 hours.

Add 1 or 2 tablespoons of turmeric and cook for a further 10 minutes.

All done. How simple is that? You can add it to fresh meats, vegetables, or pour on top of kibble.

Hi Kathleen, good question. I usually add a couple of dashes, or lets say capfuls or tablespoons. You don’t need much, and too much will make the bone broth too acidic.

  2. Could you feed the meat that is on the bones (removing any bones) after you finish cooking the broth? Or is it best just to give the broth?
