The grain-free offering from Aussie company Pet Food Australia boasts the novel ingredient hemp oil. But how does the food stack up, and is it good for your dog?
Let’s take a look…
Firstly, we find a whopping combo of turkey, chicken, and fish meal making up the bulk of the food. That’s a fantastic start (especially considering many big and trusted commercial brands are mostly grains). There’s no trickery involved in the labelling, and we can be assured meat makes up a good proportion of the food as a whole.
We find two more main ingredients, potato and peas. These will help round off the food, add carbs, starch (to bind the kibble), and peas will add protein and fibre. Neither ingredient is in excess, so no real concerns there.
The company boast the use of help oil, an ingredient shown to have a number of health benefits. It contains a perfect 3:1 ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 which are great for joints, skin, coat, and immune system. It’s said to deter chronic inflammation and cancer, and should prove beneficial to a dog with allergies.
The rest of the food really stacks up to other top brands, with inclusions such as kelp, coconut oil, alfalfa, plus fruits and veggies. The composition is a rather decent 30% protein and 16% fat, which in turn ensures the food is lower in carbohydrates (sugars) than many brands of food.
Also, if all that stuff about
grain-free foods lack of taurine causing heart problems (DCM), then it’s great to see they’ve included taurine as well.
