About David D’Angelo
David D’Angelo has a strong background in science, research, and data analysis. He founded Pet Food Reviews in 2013 with a clear mission – to uncover the real truth about pet nutrition and help pet owners like yourself make more informed choices for your pet.

Alongside this project, David has worked with the Australian government, global corporations, as well as professional research and writing roles. David has a strong aptitude of analysing research critically, determining key facts from scientific research without bias.
David has a deep love for all animals, but his research into the nutritional needs of domestic dogs and cats has excelled far beyond a fleeting interest, evolving over more than 13 years into a dedicated pursuit grounded in science, critical thinking, and a commitment to helping our pets live longer, healthier, and happier lives.
A pivotal moment in David’s journey came in 2015 when he began interviewing directors of global pet food manufacturers to uncover how marketing and selective science are often used to sell highly processed products as “healthy.” He began to spend time with leading professors and veterinarians speaking out on pet health, and has witnessed firsthand the damage caused by many commercial pet foods – particularly the widespread dental disease and tooth extractions in cats and dogs fed solely kibble or wet food brands.
A further key moment in David’s learning came with the 2018 Australian Senate inquiry into pet food safety. For David, this truly exposed how deeply multinational corporations like Mars, Nestlé, and Colgate-Palmolive influence pet food science, marketing, and the veterinary industry. The inquiry revealed the extent of Australia’s pet food industry as largely self-regulated, with no mandatory safety standards or recall system, which still remains the case today.
David has two pets – a Border Collie called “BG”, and a Tabby/Maine Coon cross “Bernard”. Many pet owners and veterinarians express surprise at the health of both pets, despite their respective ages of 9 years and 14 years at the time of writing.
David truly believes the information on Pet Food Reviews will help guide you and your pet toward a happier, healthier life – starting with the simple but often overlooked fact that cats are obligate carnivores, and dogs are far more biologically similar to carnivores than to omnivores like us.
