Artemis Fresh Mix is the base range from the company being a grain-based kibble. They also offer OsoPure as a grain free option. Let’s take a look at the Medium/Large Breed Adult formula for this review, a moderate protein and fat kibble with a mixture of meat, vegetables, and grain.

At the time of writing this review I’m not aware of any Artemis recalls, ever. In many years of reviewing pet foods I’ve never had a complaint about this food. That’s a real plus and suggests a high quality product.

By the looks of it the top eight or nine ingredients could be in similar proportions, so it really is a mix. Of those top ingredients we have a ratio of 3 meats, 4 grains, and 2 vegetables (both being peas!). The grains are good selections like barley and oats, which are far better than the problematic cereals/wheat/by-products we find in many brands. They’ve even opted for the superior brown rice over white.

Chicken, chicken meal, and turkey are all decent lean meats, combined with chicken fat. We find other meat ingredients in the mix such as duck, salmon, and fish meal, so they’ve really gone to town.

The laundry list doesn’t end there, and there’s a whole host of nice ingredients – green tea extract as an antioxidant, flaxseed for skin and coat, eggskelp, spinach, and a range of fruits and veggies. Chicory root is a source of soluble dietary fibre and a prebiotic to aid digestion. Yep, this food is packed with decent ingredients.

Despite being a predominantly grain-based kibble it’s still very well considered and hard to fault, especially given the lack of recalls or consumer issues.

Why does it have dried skim milk? Isn’t that a potential problem?
