Ausdog Dog Food Review

Ausdog dog food review

Not a big seller in Australia, Ausdog is made by the same manufacturer behind Delicate Care and Cherish which are better options for your dog.

Ausdog isn’t the best dog food in Australia, but I can’t ignore it may suit you if you’re looking for the best dog food on a budget.

For this review we’ll take a look at the pros and cons of the Ausdog Chicken & Corn recipe…

Ausdog review

Compared to the budget Vitality range from Advanced Pet Care, Ausdog is a decent step up and thankfully wheat gluten free.

Ausdog Dog Food Review

Consider it more a corn and rice formula for your meat-loving dog, but when it comes to grains these are more digestible and less problematic than the likes of wheat. Corn offers more in the way of protein than other grains, and protein is something your dog will benefit from more compared to carbs.

Even though the above two grains are listed 2nd and 3rd, combined they will outweigh poultry meal which is listed first – this is how dog food recipes trick you.

We can prove this given Ausdog has moderate protein of 24% even with poultry meal (high protein) and corn (high protein for a grain), and I would expect this to be higher given the ingredients.

Beef tallow and meat meal round off what look to be the main ingredients, as everything from the ambiguous “natural flavours” won’t be much of the recipe at all.

On a plus side with the minor inclusions, a little coconut meal and a blend of omega 3 & 6 from various oils (canola, sunflower, and seemingly to a lesser extent fish and flax seed) are welcome.

Our dogs will always thrive more on dog food made from quality meats, meat fats, and organs, but foods made in that way are much more costly. Ausdog gives you a cheaper solution, and you can throw your dog some species-appropriate table scraps and raw meaty bones as well.
