I have to say I like the name XP3020. It stands for Xtra Premium 30% protein 20% fat. As far as dog kibbles go that makes it high protein and high fat, which can be a good thing given dogs depend on protein for health and muscle mass, and animal fats are necessary for nutrition and energy. It also makes it low in carbs, which is great.
This isn’t a food you’ll find on the supermarket shelves or even the pet stores. They state on their website it’s available at dog shows in Victoria, or you can call them to arrange a delivery.
So is it any good?
Chicken meal is the first ingredient, a protein-dense form of chicken. It’s one of the best ingredients to find in a dog food. We also have chicken fat as the 3rd ingredient which is an excellent source of animal fat. That’s two big ticks. 30% protein is a definite plus, and give the recipe this looks to have a decent amount of meat in the food.

The 2nd ingredient is brown rice which is considered to be a much better option than white rice which suffers from more processing. Brown rice is higher in fibre and nutrients, and will provide your dog with a slow-burning source of energy. Another upside of brown rice is it’s not considered to be a source of allergies, which is the case with the likes of wheat which we find in most foods.
Poultry digest is a broth from meat rendering. It’s not a pleasant ingredient but is in most pet foods, often labelled inconspicuously as “natural flavouring” or “chicken broth”. L-carnitine is usually included as a supplement where poor quality meat has been used, or it may be added as a preventative.
It’s nice to see flaxseed oil, an excellent source of omega fats for overall health and glossy coat. Lecithin is a beneficial anti-oxidant, and there’s some nice inclusions of fruits and veggies as well.
The food is high in protein and fat, which is a great thing, and it means it’s very low in carbs (we estimate 28%).
