Natural Balance Dog Food Review

WebsiteNatural Balance

I read on the Natural Balance website that “Your Dog’s health is the most important thing to us”, so let’s see if that’s true…

The main ingredient in this food is rice, so we’re not really off to a good start. It’s an ok ingredient as far as grains go, but we should really see a meat ingredient or even better a meat “meal” in the top spot. A dog needs meat far more than it needs grains.

Natural Balance Dog Food Review

We find lamb and duck in the food, and it’s nice to see these are sourced in Australia (kudos there!). It’s a shame they’re not in meal form, as after cooking these ingredients will be reduced to around 30% of their weight. This means the bulk of the food is more realistically the rice and the corn gluten meal we find next, which is a lousy non-nutritious cheap filler that will artificially inflate the protein levels in the food.

Tallow and poultry digest come from the rendering of diseased and dying animals, and not ingredients I like to see in a food. Better quality brands never have ingredients such as this.

Compared to other foods, this is too low in fat and I estimate the carbs to be a rather high 50%.

I question why they label it Super Premium because it really isn’t. I’ll give it a generous 3 stars as they’re using a marginally better grain than the wheat and sorghum we find in lots of other foods.

I believe this food is manufactured by Advanced Pet Care.

  1. This brand is developed and manufactured in Perth and is not connected to or owned by Advanced Pet Care. It is far and away the best dried dog food I have used and the Delicate Care cleared up a myriad of problems with my Amstaff. I would be nervous to go back to any othr brand.

  2. The super premium and ultra premium seem to have taken a walk as you just don’t see it as much these days and for good reason.

The old petbarn website used to use such words to find specific foods, the problem with this was that most of the foods on that list were just crazily overpriced foods like Royal Canin, there was nothing actually premium about them at all.

I haven’t seen those words anywhere I’ve looked in a long time, it’s a good thing they removed that nonsense.

  3. Any kibble that has Corn gluten meal, Tallow & Poultry digest in the first 6 ingredients isn’t a good premium food…. I hope if you are feeding this kibble you also feed fresh foods as well & just use this as a base kibble….

  4. Hi Guys i am wondering if this product is any good for my over weight lab x bull mastiff,he has to lose 15 kilo, and he has to only eat this food, has anyone else on here tried it and how long did you see any transformation in there weight loss.

    • Todd exercise is best to lose weight, 20min walks twice a day & have a look at “Taste Of The Wild” Sierra Mountain Roasted Lamb.. sold at Pet Circle or My Pet Warehouse…..

  5. We started feeding our 2 dogs Natural Balance when living in Perth over 10 years ago and continue to use it with our current dog. Personally, we rate it over all the big name products. In fact we now recommend it to our customers and get great feedback – mainly that their dog maintains a healthy weight and the dog eats it where it would not eat Blackwawk, for example. And NB’s Delicate formula gets great feedback from owners of dogs with skin & stomach issues. There is almost too much choice in the range of food available, our best advice is to try a few but make sure one of them is Natural Balance.
PS: we are groomers in NSW, not from NB.

    • Just trying this today as everything else we feed our 7 month old border collie gives him awful wind, diahorroea, and upset tummies. Raw food, advance puppy growth, raw chicken frames, home cook etc let’s hope this works!
