XP3020 Dog Food Review

I have to say I like the name XP3020. It stands for Xtra Premium 30% protein 20% fat. As far as dog kibbles go that makes it high protein and high fat, which can be a good thing given dogs depend on protein for health and muscle mass, and animal fats are necessary for nutrition and energy. It also makes it low in carbs, which is great.

So is it any good?

Chicken meal is the first ingredient, a protein-dense form of chicken. It’s one of the best ingredients to find in a dog food. We also have chicken fat as the 3rd ingredient which is an excellent source of animal fat. That’s two big ticks. 30% protein is a definite plus.

The 2nd ingredient is brown rice, a much better inclusion than white rice, and much much better than wheat. It’s higher in fibre, richer in nutrients, and will offer your dog a slow-burning source of energy. Another upside of brown rice is it’s not considered to be a source of allergies (such as the wheat we find in most foods).

Poultry digest is a broth from meat rendering. It’s not a pleasant ingredient but is in most pet foods, often labelled inconspicuously as “natural flavouring” or “chicken broth”. L-carnitine is usually included as a supplement where poor quality meat has been used, or it may be added as a preventative.

It’s nice to see flaxseed oil, an excellent source of omega fats for overall health and glossy coat. Lecithin is a beneficial anti-oxidant, and there’s some nice inclusions of fruits and veggies as well.

The food is high in protein and fat, which is a great thing, and it means it’s very low in carbs (we estimate 28%).

  1. Wonderful kibble, ingredients are now different from previous years and If one of Australia’s leading greyhound trainers is using XP3020 it’s good enough for my GSP!

  2. We stock this product now where we work.

  3. I have read the ingredients list, looked at the gauranteed analysis and watched the video. There are few things in there not exactly right, but he does make a good point regarding grain free.
The true test of any pet food is feeding trials. What palatability and digestibility data is there on this food? what is the dry matter, protien, fat and carbohydrate digestibility, faeces out put per 1000 kcals?
It’s a bit of a contradiction to say the food is an all life stage food and suitable for puppy growth in all breeds. Toy small breed dogs require different ca:phos ratios than large giant breeds during growth.
Good in theory, but not reality

  4. This food is not available at PetStock or MyPetWarehouse.

  5. Hello, I know the website is in transition, but I can’t even get the ‘ask a question’ form to submit. I wanted to know what sized bags you sell, and what is the cost. Can’t seem to find this anywhere in the website (yet) . Thanks!

  6. Tried contacting the company to place an order, numbers & email unanswered 🙁

    • Maybe it will take 2 months like Sunday Pets? They were awful to deal with, some of my questions went unanswered and when I asked for samples twice I was told both times someone would get in touch with me, it’s been about a year lol.

Some companies have a lot of orders coming in maybe just give it some time, if it takes longer than 2 weeks though, it’s unlikely you’ll get a message back ever.

  7. Yes you need to review it again

  8. There is no corn in xp3020 now. they use brown rice. Also it is made in Australia. The ingredients have changed.
