Update 30/05/2018 – Formula changed for the worse. Reduction in protein from 25% to 20%, fat from 17% to 10%, which means a 12% increase in carbs. Inclusion of ambiguous cereal grains over rice. They’ve also reduced the bag size, so you’re paying more, for less.

This is one of the first reviews I’ve had to rewrite after a drastic formula change. Not only have they reduced meat and meat fats, but they’ve included cereal grains which can be detrimental to a dog’s health as well as causing allergies, bloat, and lethargy.

Let’s take a look at Holistic Lamb and Rice

They sell a few other foods such as Boss Dog and Max Premium, and to review these in brief they’re all very cheap cereal-based kibbles lacking in decent meat content.

Next Generation Holistic Dog Food Review

The main ingredient is a combination of lamb meat and meat meals from lambpoultry, and fish. That’s good to see, but the rice and wholegrain cereals will likely outweigh the meat 2:1. The protein percentage of 20% is low, even compared to supermarket brands, and rice would be a large constituent of that over meat. The fat percentage of 10% isn’t good either. It means the food will be high in carbohydrates from the grains, which will turn to sugars.

Even with the more minor ingredients there isn’t much to rave about. They use natural antioxidants which is a small plus point, but it’s fundamentally a grain-based food with some meat in it. It’s over 50% carbs.

It wasn’t that great before, and they’ve made it worse.

It’s usually always poultry or chicken.
