Meals for Mutts (MFM) is an Australian pet food company. Originally formulated and manufactured by the company who now make LifeWise, they switched manufacture to Hypro circa 2018. Their food is labelled hypoallergenic and gluten free, making this a good option for allergy-prone dogs.

Over the years they’ve established a loyal following, especially as an Australian brand which is far better than many. Price wise it’s slightly cheaper than Ivory Coat, and it’s certainly comparable.

Meals for Mutts Dog Food Review

This review is for the Kangaroo & Lamb variety, but consider the other grain-based foods in the range on par. The MFM grain free food is also worth checking out as a slightly better, slightly more expensive alternative.

Kangaroo and lamb meat is the main ingredient and will constitute most of the 20% protein in this food. Peas are a further source of protein as the 4th ingredient. This makes a solid base for the food, but it’s apparent the meat content is outweighed by the rice, vegetables, peas, and alfalfa which make up the top ingredients.

The choice of ground brown rice as the 3rd ingredient after seasonal vegetables is a good one as it’s one of the most beneficial grains for a dog. It’s not used in excess either. We don’t know what the seasonal vegetables are, and it’s likely to be the cheapest vegetables they can buy at the time of manufacture.

The ingredients as a whole are all carefully considered, giving the food a good balance. There are some nice inclusions such as alfalfa, kelp, garlic, and it’s really nice to see the use of natural preservatives – a sign of a good product.

The food definitely stacks up. If you can afford the slightly higher price then check out their grain free food as the marginally better alternative.
