Coles Complete Balance

Coles Complete Balance

Complete Balance is Cole’s home brand. It’s one of the cheapest foods you can buy, but is that a good thing?

The food is Made in Australia, but what is important to note is some of the ingredients are sourced from overseas.

The main ingredient in a dog food should always be meat, and it’s good to see this is the case with Complete Balance. However, it’s the lowest quality meat ingredient available. It’s a mixture of poultry and beef by-products, which ensures your dog will be chowing down on all the wastage that couldn’t be sold off for human consumption.

We find tallow further down the list, an ingredient which confirms the meat in the food comes from a rendering plant. This is where sub-standard, diseased, dying animals, meat waste, and perhaps nastier stuff like roadkill is cooked up into a generic “meat” product.

The bulk of the ingredients from here on in are poor quality grains and grain by-products. Wheat is one of the top causes of allergies in dogs, and provides next to no nutritional value. Pet food manufacturers use these ingredients as cheap fillers, not because they’re good for your dog.

It’s nice to see kelp in the food. It’s a wonderful ingredient we now find in a lot of foods as it’s a great source of iodine (good for the thyroid), minerals, amino acids, and is high in fibre. Unfortunately it’s too little too late with this food. The only real positive is the price – it’s very very cheap.
